Lunch at the Old Hwy 40 Bar & Grill
Located at Donner Ski Ranch, Top of the Hill, Donner Summit
Join us for a scenic drive along Historic Old Route 40 and Lincoln Highway (the first transcontinental highway). After passing through Auburn, we begin our journey alternating either side of I-80 on smooth 2-lane roads winding their way to Donner Summit. Stops will provide time to view the rushing water of the South Yuba River fed by the melting snowpack, pass through towns you only know by their names on highway off-ramp signs, see the iconic Rainbow Lodge and river rapids at Big Bend. We will continue over the top of Donner Summit and down to Donner Lake. Upon reaching Donner Lake, we’ll climb the infamous Donner Pass Road and stop atop the lookout to look back at the lake before crossing the Rainbow Bridge enroute to our lunch stop.
